Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was born on March 10 1949. She is an American investor and speaker as well as consultant. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage she established. NRT purchased it for $66million in 2001. Corcoran soon exited the company. Corcoran, one of ABC's initial Shark investors has been part of each episode of Shark Tank. As of February 2020, she's signed 53 deals with the show, with the biggest being a $350,000 investment to purchase 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, the second of 10 children from a working class Irish Catholic family. Florence, her mother, was an exemplary household worker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was a mover from one job to the next throughout Corcoran's early years. The family depended on food delivery services for free from the local grocer. Corcoran remembers her father as a drunkard who sometimes treated her mother with condescension and disrespect, especially when having consumed alcohol. Corcoran struggled through her schooling and later discovered that she had dyslexia. Corcoran started the high school system at St. Cecilia High School Englewood, after she left her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran was proficient in a variety of classes during her first year. She transferred to Leonia High School and graduated with a grade of D.
